Packham would never have done this using the trappings of another popular religion not known for its tolerance.

Outstanding analysis of the 'cultural' cesspit that is the BBC and the 'cultural society' they think they represent.

This self-sanctification also shows the historic illiteracy of bot Packham and the BBC. Didn't they know that St Francis went to Tunis to preach the Gospel and peace to muslims and eat and debated with a Sultan? Thass islamophic, innit, and thus totally beyond the pale: 'celebrating' someone who clearly was using hate speech! Shocking!

Thanks for this essay.

Even as a man with no religious belief at all, I find that image very distasteful. The unnecessary cassock, the ray of light, and the Disney-esque birds combine to produce something exactly the opposite to what it is trying to say.

I had the same thought when I saw the article and you have analysed and described this in such an articulate, insightful way. I agree with one of your other commentators that Packham and the BBC would never have taken this kind of liberty with any other religion. We can only hope we've reached Peak Packham soon.

I am both a fan of Chris Packham and a believer in something other than christianity but good grief, what WERE they thinking? Terrible, terrible idea.
