“Sacked for Wrongthink”: New Initiative Launches to Give Voice to the Silenced and Cancelled
[Northumberland, UK, 21st January 2025] – A new initiative, Sacked for Wrongthink, has launched to shed light on a growing crisis in the UK: the cancellation of individuals for expressing opinions or beliefs deemed unacceptable by employers or institutions. This issue has escalated over the past two decades, leaving countless individuals without jobs, careers, or justice.
The initiative aims to highlight the untold stories of those whose livelihoods have been destroyed simply for expressing themselves. While public attention often focuses on high-profile cancellations, Sacked for Wrongthink emphasizes that the real toll is borne by ordinary people. Research conducted by Dynata for the Free Speech Union in January 2024 revealed that hundreds of thousands of British workers may have been disciplined or terminated for essentially holding dissenting opinions.
“This is not just about freedom of speech—it’s about the devastating real-world consequences for individuals, families, and our society,” said Founder, Richard Palmer. “The cancelled often suffer in silence, unable to even share their stories for fear of further retaliation. That silence must end.”
The Free Speech Union’s report on the impact of Diversity, Equality, and Inclusion (EDI) policies in UK workplaces exposed shocking statistics: a significant number of workers from all sectors and regions, from Shetland to Cornwall, may have lost their jobs for expressing lawful opinions. This report, discussed widely in media outlets like GB News and TalkTV, sparked a national conversation.
What Sacked for Wrongthink Offers
While the Free Speech Union continues to fight for justice, Sacked for Wrongthink focuses on giving a platform to the silenced. The initiative provides:
A safe, anonymous space for victims to share their stories.
Advocacy to bring these injustices to public attention.
Resources and encouragement for victims to join supportive organizations like the Free Speech Union.
Broadcast through Substack, Podcast and YouTube
Interviews with victims and other concerned individuals
“We can’t promise justice, but we can promise to make these stories heard,” Richard Palmer continued. “The more people speak out, the harder it becomes for society to ignore the price we’re paying for silencing dissent.”
