There, I said it. An online taboo: that the migration into the west by young men from the third world is being motivated in part by the availability of online pornography that presents western, white women as both sex objects but also enthusiastic for sex. Now, you won’t be at all surprised to learn that I’ve been unable to find any studies linking the availability of porn with the desire for young men to migrate to the west. It’s tricky enough finding any that confirms economic opportunity as the main motivator, so strong is the narrative that they are fleeing oppression or something. But you don;t have to be a scientist to deduce that porn might be a factor. Let’s break it down: what do we know of porn? What do we know of young men? What do we know of the behaviour of many of these young men when they arrive in the west?
So first: porn. You’d have to have been living under a rock for it to have escaped you that pornography in 2025 is not pornography in 1985. The sheer volume and availability of online porn, the extreme nature of the porn available couldn’t have possibly been predicted in 1985. Back then if you wanted a ‘Blue Movie’ you had to go to a licensed sex shop, or perhaps one of the listed ads in the back of what we used to euphemistically call the ‘Grumble Mags’. Such were invariably very expensive, fairly tame by modern standards and usually poor quality, copies of copies of copies. Then in the early 1990s along came the internet, the wild west internet of the 1990s caught society by surprise, it certainly caught law enforcement by surprise and child porn online became a major problem very quickly.
By the turn of the century more powerful computers and faster internet was enabling the downloading of videos, albeit low resolution and small. In the early 00s I worked with a start up that was setting up an arty version of YouTube, I wasn’t especially surprised to learn that the internet technologies we take for granted, from paywalls, to secure payment to video streaming, were often developed by and certainly enhanced and improved by the porn industry.
And now leap to 2025 and smartphones. Pornography accounts for over 30% of all internet traffic. Pornhub alone has over 3 billion visits per month and it is one of hundreds, thousands of sites. The most distinctive thing about the pornography of 2025 compared to the porn of 1985 is the availability, not only of high definition hetrosexual and homosexual porn, but the availability of fetishes and sexual activities that the customer in 1985 would have had to travel to the dark parts of London, Amsterdam or San Francisco to find. The obsession with anal sex, ever more extreme bdsm, rape, choking are all presented as commonplace alongside soft porn even hard core ‘vanilla’ sex is completely tame compared to what’s not only available but promoted.
The insatiable demand for porn has fuelled a worrying growth in ‘amateur’ porn. Only Fans is a site where anyone can upload their talents, it essentially started out as a way for musicians and comedians etc to monetise their talents. It rapidly became a porn site with amateur women and men doing precisely that. 1.4 million, thats 2% of all American women aged 18-45 have Only Fans accounts. Some of them are very successful. The notorious Bonnie Blue and Lily Philips, who have recently hit the headlines one by taking 1000 men in one day and another by taking 50 men, rectally, in one session. Both have spoken at length about their ‘careers’. Both are British, both earn a lot of money doing this, it’s not unusual for OF models to earn tens of thousands of dollars per month. (The majority earn nothing like that of course). Worryingly, whilst being interviewed after having slept with 100 men in a row, Philips was asked by the interviewer why she was rubbing her eye. She explained that many of the men came in her face. The interviewer asked if she wasn’t concerned about STDs and HIV. Philips looked confused and informed him that it was ok because they used condoms. Horrifying: that a young woman involved in this industry didn’t seem to understand how sexually transmitted diseases are passed between individuals,
So what is the impact of all this porn on society? Well I think we can broadly agree that it’s not particularly positive. In 2021 58% of American College Aged women admitted to having been choked during sex. Choking involves restricting the airflow at the point of orgasm it increases the intensity of the orgasm. It’s every bit as dangerous as it sounds. Yet porn has made it appear to be a common, if not expected practice during sex with many in Gen Z thinking that it is normal. Similar figures exist for anal sex and other practices which less than a generation ago were niche if anything. Young women now tell us that their partners expect anal sex as normal. There are hundreds of studies linking violence against women to pornography but what is only just beginning to emerge is even more concerning: that pornography is driving men into paedophilia and other sexual crimes.
Several American Psychologists, like Andrew Huberman have studied the impact of porn on male brain anatomy. Yes, porn addiction can change your brain physically. Here’s how this happens: the brain is set up to reward us with dopamine. This is what drives addiction. So the act of arousal when watching porn isn’t just sexual, it drives this reward cycle and, like every other addiction, it wears off. So men start to pursue increasingly extreme pornography in order to get the same hit. Desensitisation results in behaviours like collecting porn, those found with child porn frequently have it in amounts that they could not possibly consume in a lifetime. The possession becomes the game. When the brains of such porn addicts are looked at under MRI scans, you won’t be surprised to learn that they have physically changed, that the areas that govern behaviour, morals, inhibitions are all shrunken. We see similar structures in the brains of born psychopaths.
Even more worrying, an American psychologist who works with paedophile prisoners and other sex offenders has anecdotal evidence from hundreds of interviews that a proportion of these addicts don’t stop at pictures, they become active paedophiles and rapists. In short, porn addiction has literally turned these men, once normal family men, into paedophile predators, it has turned them into psychopaths.
So where are the health warnings? The Psychologist in question was interviewed anonymously on YouTube a few years ago, he hasn’t been published but he indicated he would be moving into research because this is not being looked at seriously. There are a lot of very powerful people pulling the strings. Aylo Holdings, the company who owns PornHub is owned by an Ottawa Based Private Equity Firm called, without any irony: Ethical Partners.
So how the hell does a Private Equity Firm that touts its woke credentials get involved with owning Pornhub, who, in 2023, were arraigned by the Department of Justice and admitted to benefitting from child trafficking? And this was after a 2020 investigation by the New York Times revealed that a huge amount of content on Pornhub was non consensual, underage, and sex trafficking victims, Mastercard, Visa and the other payment providers pulled services and Pornhub took down a whopping 65% of their videos, from 14 million to 6 million.
Of course, it’s hardly surprising that a woke PE company owns them, after all, woke has driven so much of the sexualisation of our society. Pride was once a dignified memorial march, it’s now a corporate free for all where fetishes, nudity and oral and anal sex is practiced in the open at some events and worse, occasionally in front of children. These days ‘gay’ seems to mean that you wear crotchless leather jeans and a body harness if Pride is anything to go by. Of course, anyone criticising this was screamed at for being a bigot and you found the usual Useful Idiot liberal mums and dads taking Tarquin and Cressidia along to the Pride parade to show how inclusive they are, just after they aged out of drag queen story hour at the local library.
Look no one wants to go back to the days of Mary Whitehouse, no one wants people to be ashamed of their sexuality. However, it is increasingly difficult to deny that there has been an overcorrection that is now harming our society deeply. Taboos exist for a reason. We are now at the stage where some academics are seriously arguing for the acceptance of paedophilia as a sexuality society must accept. Pornography is the steam engine behind the sexualisation of society, this is causing problems in relationships, for individuals, for women and child safety, for addicted men. It is not a good thing and we need to start educating people about the dangers, especially men and young people.
So we’ve looked at Pornography. Now, what about young men? Now I know a lot more about young men because I used to be one. Young men and teenagers are the same the world over. They are driven by adventure, excitement and of course sex. I often wonder what it must be like as a young man, like my 18 year old son, growing up in 2025 with the availability of pornography as it is. I was realistic enough to understand that he would of course access pornography, the strategy we took was to speak to him about it and to tell him about the dangers of falling down the rabbit hole I described above. How men were especially susceptible to this because of how our brains worked and to educate him about addiction in the same way we introduced booze and every other addictive substance. Be careful, watch out for signs that you may be developing an addiction. If you are then stop or get help.
We’ve discussed the impact of porn addiction on men above but this was from a western perspective. There don’t seem to be any studies looking at the impact on men in the third world. What is it like for them? What if you are a young man growing up in a village in the Hindu Kush, where the only school is a madrassa that you left aged 13, that the only educated man in the village is the Iman, where your society restricts you from female company, where conservative islam is enforced rigorously. What happens when a boy in the village gets his first smartphone? Do you think he will be using it to improve his language skills? Do you think he will be playing Candy Crush or Angry Birds on it? Well, he might be but knowing young men (having been one) he’ll be accessing every single porn site he can, he’ll be sharing these with his friends, and what will they see? Well, the vast majority of women on these sites are white. This is because Europe and the USA are the largest producers of porn. So white women are not only sexy, they are also up for it: it says so on the internet. British youths are, on the whole, an unsophisticated lot. What about Eritean, Somali, or Afghan youths? Do you think their education system prepares them even in the ineffective way western education does, for a world that has Pornhub? Do they have the sophistication or nuanced understanding that these women are not a reflection on actual western women?
Well, if you view some of the thousands of TikTok videos uploaded by young European women in Barcelona, Berlin, Amsterdam, Rome, Paris and a dozen other cities, clearly not. Video after video shows these women walking through the streets, often in broad daylight, being subjected to constant propositions and harassment by literally dozens of men. In some cases individuals follow them. They aren’t even wearing provocative clothing, just dressed normally. It’s got so bad in some German cities that the police are advising German women to cover their hair. I.e. wear a veil. Telling women and LGBTQ people to avoid ‘Arab’ areas.
Looking at the faces of the young men arriving on the dinghies at Dover I am struck by the expression of excitement, their laughter and their enthusiasm. As they walk up to the busses, and start to see the hostile glances, that the streets are not paved with gold and the women aren’t all porn stars calling them to come into their homes to fix a blocked drain. Last month I saw an interview with a young Somali man on YouTube, he was in Rome, he was complaining that he is treated like shit by the Italians, that he was promised a place where the women would love him and they all reject him and run away, he said that it was a con, to get them to come over to do the shitty jobs.
Has it occured to anyone that perhaps, the reason why so many of the people arriving in the west from the 3rd world, in particular in Europe, are young men is because they are being sold a west that doesn’t exist? The old cliché of running away to sea in 21st century form. I remember as a 17 year old, about to go Interrailing in 1988. I recall my friends, who unlike my spoiled self, hadn’t been to the French and Italian riviera before. They wanted to head straight there. Why? Boobs. Everyone knew that French and Italian women sunbathed topless. Let's go and see boobs. I would raise a sardonic eyebrow and make some patronising comment about it being ‘no big deal’ and that it’s not really the done thing to stare so you just ignore it. But that wouldn’t convince them. They wanted the sun, the beaches, the clubs and the boobs of Nice and Cannes. Of course the reality, that your £5 per day budget and your scruffy rucksack meant you could look but not even afford the private beach, that these goddesses were way out of your reach, would land with a thump and it would be a subdued group who would then catch the train to Munich or Rome.
So what about the young lads in the Hindu Kush. To them the west is the west as it is presented online. Porn, wealth, loose women, opportunity, freedom. Everything that their society at home is not. What is the reality? Why do they end up in Britain and Ireland? Is it because, like the Somali man above, they realise that Italy isn’t living up to their ideal… but wait.. France might… and then France doesn’t.. But wait! What about Britain?.. And then Britain doesn’t but Ireland must? Is this westward ho! Migration being driven by a desire to find this promised land?
Because what is the reality? Cold weather, women who aren’t like they are on Pornhub, they are either not interested, scared or look at you with contempt. Men who resent your presence, who put themselves between you and their kids. You realise that without an education you will be poor in the west, as you were poor back home. You aren’t welcome here, you were lied to. Just like my friends on the Cannes front in 1988, the reality is very far from their fantasy. So what happens? Well we know that some of them, like the Somali above, slip into isolation within their community, their language skills limit social contact, so they mix together where they share their disappointment, their resentment, they are probably homesick, and then a character like Anjem Chowdery comes along and tells them to come to his Mosque.
I don’t blame them for setting out on their adventure, they are young men. But how much is the west we are presenting to them driving this? As most of that is being presented through porn, is it any surprise some of them don’t respect women? We are great ones for morally elevating our culture above theirs 'medieval values towards women’ are a problem when you can travel to another culture in a few hours, but how much is our porn export adding to this problem?
We know porn is impacting our society negatively, we have the studies, but what is it doing to the minds of those young men setting out for Europe? No one seems to be asking that question and it is high time that they start.
Some interesting comments, thanks for contributing. Comments are now closed
There's a general point coming out here - that this is beyond pornography - that we are presenting a global online monoculture which is over 30% pornography and the rest of which presents greed, sexualisation of women, instant gratification. Our caveman brains are developed to survive encounters with Sabre Toothed Tigers, our institutions and faiths are medieval and our technology both space aged and terrifying. Educated westerners show themselves every bit as easy to manipulate and with the cusp of an AI revolution - that should concern us all.
Education is critical - education that what you see online is rarely the whole story: that the image of life painted online is as fictional as any Marvel movie.
It's going to be critically important to improve the ability of everyone, everywhere, to think critically. How you do this is another question entirely when the rewards for manipulating others are so high.
I don't think you actually understand what it means to live in a third world country. I just— you have no idea how bad things are. Imagine the worst form of your government you can think of, and you haven't even begun to understand what it's like. People are leaving because things are seriously hard. I, myself, and every other young person I met wants to leave because our institutions are specifically designed to work against us. We'd prefer to stay here, but nobody is ready to starve to death for patriotism, especially from a country that feels like it hates you. The idea is always that since things always seem to be working out for you guys, people from these kinds of societies want to go to where things aren't so hard, where life isn't a series of frustrated efforts at improving your quality of life. I assure you— there is plenty of domestic porn and countless opportunities for sex in these countries too. People are looking for opportunities to better their lives, and I'm pretty sure the disappointment stems from encountering institutional problems preventing them from achieving that better quality of life in Europe. I just— really, you think the promise of sex with white people is enough to go through the insane stress of migration? Really?
